What Will Last?

In the picture if you look closely you can see that the support for the handrail has rusted completely through. This is just one of many sections in this series of handrails that has completely rusted out.

In this photo nearly a four foot section of handrail has rusted out at three points and has since fallen off. Both ends of the tube for the railing and a support underneath it, gone. I could show you other spots but I think you see what I am talking about.
The age of these handrails is unknown to me. And while I can’t  say when the last time was that they have been properly maintained it would be a safe bet that many years have past. Such destruction doesn’t happen over night.
It takes neglect to see such results. Now they will eventually rust out even if properly painted and cared for, don’t  misunderstand me. Anything man creates will fall apart. If we were perfect creatures then we could make perfect things but we are not.
God is perfect, and He made everything perfect in the beginning. In fact when He was done on the sixth day He declared “it was very good” (Genesis 1:31). There was no death or decay then.
Of course God had to allow man free will; He wanted man to choose to obey and love Him not be forced to. So God in His perfect garden also planted a tree, called the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. And though Satan had been run out of Heaven he was allowed by God to enter His garden. There he tempted Eve with the fruit of that tree that she wasn’t  supposed to eat (2:17). Not only did she eat but she gave some to Adam “and he did eat”. Man chose to disobey God and everything we have done ever since has begun to fall apart.
There is one thing we can do that will last for eternity. When we put our trust in Jesus to save us we are doing our part in the plan of Salvation. Jesus said “whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everylasting life” (John 3:16). Salvation is 99.9999999% complete thanks to Jesus giving His life on the cross, all that remains to be done is to ask Him to save your soul from eternity in Hell. He promised that whoever calls on His name shall be saved, Romans 10:13.
