The G.O.A.T.

On Sunday February 7th 2016 the big game took place. Two great quarterbacks squared off and neither looked all good. The aged veteran, possibly riding off into the sunset. The young gun slinger looking to establish his legacy early on.
On Monday a great deal of the sports talk was about the failure of the young quarterback. His mistakes both during the biggest game of his career and his controversial departure from the post game news conference. The people were riding him real good for both. Seems he hadn’t lived up to the hype. As such he must now be brow beaten for it.
There was another Man many years ago who seemingly didn’t live up to the hype. His big day came and instead of claiming victory then He looked to have fallen. Mercilessly the crowds mocked Him and claimed He was a failure. In fact Matthew put it this way in his account, 27:41,42 “Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross, and we will believe him.”
For three years Jesus had preached, taught, and performed miracles. Yet the people were never quite satisfied and their leaders for the most part never like Jesus at all. He didn’t live up to their hype, He just chose to live the way that His Father wanted Him to live.
That day on the cross looked like defeat to the world, but it actually was the prelude to the knockout punch that was coming on that Resurrection morning. For on that morning God showed that He had approved the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross and rose Him from the grave. Yes people still talk poorly about Jesus, even use His name as a curse word, but He lived up to the heavenly plan for our salvation. He truly is the Greatest Of All Time!
