Coming in Victory

Today is Palm Sunday. The day that Jesus made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. In John 12:13 “Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.” Those palm tree branches weren’t just used because they lacked a red carpet for Him.
Palm trees symbolise victory. They are featured in the new temple, that will be standing during the millennial reign, that is described in Ezekiel chapter 40. When the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea on dry ground one of the first places they camped at was Elim Exodus 15:27, there they found 12 wells of water surrounded by 70 palm trees. Can I just say this, God not only delivered them from slavery, destroyed their former masters, but He also supplied them with rest and refreshment in pretty much a single blow.
Also there is the Feast of Booths. This required feast of the Lord meant that for seven days the people camped outside using branches of palm trees for tents, Leviticus 23:39-44. They needed to remember what they had in this life is not as great as compared to what is to come, the ultimate victory!
That day, 2000 years ago may not have been what the people wanted but it did lead up to what we all needed. The victory over death and Hell that only God could bring, 1 Corinthians 15:53-57.
