A hard choice

1 Kings 19:3 “And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.”
Yesterday we saw how Elijah left his servant in the wilderness. One chose to remain behind. The going was too hard, there was to much danger, too many obstacles, and it wasn’t always glorious. Real people having real issues, issues that can’t be resolved in less than half and hour in a convenient time slot either. Life may not have been perfect for this young man but it was better than the life Elijah lead.
Often times we get down on Elijah for running away from the queen in fear of his life. But guess what, there is something out there for each of us that has the ability to put us on the run too. For each of us it is different but it exists. Give Elijah some credit though, he did end up at the Mt. of God. Often times when the Israelites got into trouble they ran back to Egypt but he didn’t go there. By the time he arrived he was mad, suicidal, depressed, and lonely but at least he had kept on going. The other guy quit. Elijah pushed on. Elijah got some help and restored while that other fella is lost to the pages of history, name unknown (and in their society your name was everything).
I am sure the going was hard and very long for Elijah but in the end it was worth it.
It can be a hard choice to go forward for God when this world has brought everything to bear against you, just ask Elijah. But it is worth it in the end.
