Porn and death

James 1:15 “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
Typically we look at this verse and we automatically assume physical death. However, death takes many forms and effects many things. What I would like to do though here is to look at the death brought about in a different light.
Let’s look at lust and porn or pornography as it is short for. The young men love it because they get to see naked women. Not just naked women but beautiful and willingly nude women. Their hormones are raging seemingly out of control and for the most part it doesn’t take much, even for a good Christian boy to get into porn. Might I also add that the numbers of women getting into viewing porn is reported to be on the rise as well.
Now you might rightfully ask how do I know this, well honestly because I have been there and that’s why I am writing today to show others that this is what it does.
Porn cheapens the human body, both male and female, turns sex in any form into a commodity. The more porn consumed the stronger the material will need to become in order for the full pleasure of what is being viewed to be achieved. Till one day the individual wakes up and is searching for the hardest porn they can find. Their sense of what they are watching is so refined they know just how much “acting” is taking place verses a real life situation, and yes there really is some realism but to get that you have to go deeper.
Death from porn happens in this sense. Your marriage can easily fail, especially when your partner doesn’t share your hungers. The God given joys of sex die out and become just mundane, you have to go through the motions just to get your partner to leave you alone, because truly you are no longer interested in them. Not because of their appearance but you want to be with the person in the video or in the photos. If you are saved your death is the death of your fellowship with God as you grow colder and colder. I would also add mentally there is death in your decency, because your eyes locked onto to someone’s body parts long before you ever see their face and every word spoken by them is filtered in your mind to check for any hint of an invitation to jump in bed. It don’t matter where you are at either, because even in a church building those lusts are alive inside of the individuals mind, slowly killing the person off.
So how can someone get out of this then?
James 5:16a “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.”
Get an accountability partner, someone who you can confide in about your problem and the both of you pray about it. Then have this person check in on you often. When ever the desires come calling call that person and get to praying.
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
Put forth real effort to get into God’s word. Be busy doing what God has called you to do. No one was called to be a bench warmer. If we are busy serving God we have no time to mess with temptation.
1 Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
Understand and accept this very important detail. You are still human, saved by grace but you still are in this robe of human flesh. What that means is that temptations are going to come your way. It is a fact of life. Now what do you do? Don’t roll over for them!!!! Take it to God. Start praying, get back to work (idle hands ate the devils playground), where is your Bible cause you need to be reading it and not them, move away from that temptation, leave the room or whatever. Trust me, asking God to help you all the while your mind is focused on the temptation is just words that mean nothing to God because He knows where your heart is really at. It may tale longer to give in but eventually you will if you don’t flee it.
Have you put on the whole armor of God as recorded in Ephesians 6:14-17? For that matter is it still on? Many times we get comfortable and start dropping pieces here and there, then suddenly we are spiritually naked. And a naked soldier is a dead soldier. There are other verses but this is running long.
Stand by your defenses and God will stand by you.
