Wasting time

For the past several days one of our guys at the depot has been power washing the dock floor, section by section. Only a couple hours a day is spent on it due to the limited amount of time where no one is on the dock. It is slow and tedious work which doesn’t seem to be bearing much fruit. The floor continues to look dirty and only a small section has been done.
However to those who know it isn’t as bad as it appears. The concrete is stained worse than pressurized water by itself can clean. Only an 1 1/2 inch of water at a time makes contact with the floor. If the stream is made wider it looses it’s cutting power. The water that has been squeegeed off has been gray, black, and even at time brown.
But if the one doing the job only focuses on the little progress discouragement will set in. The focus must remain on the job getting done. Time is not much of a factor the quality of the work is.
In Acts 9:10-18 we read of a disciple named Ananias. He is found only in this portion of scripture. The Lord gave him a single job to do. For all we know this was all he ever did. Now given his instructions to go to Saul of Tarsus to help him receive his sight again it is natural for him to not want to do it. But he did go and gave it his all.
Given how much we read about Saul/Paul and all the scripture he was used by God to write we should be grateful for his obedience to this pitiful task. It didn’t look like much and it may have been a waste of his time but he did what he could. Doing what God tells you to do is never a waste of time.
