The choice is ours

In Ruth 4 we learn that Boaz was able to redeem Ruth and her mother in law Naomi. After the redemption process had played out the witnesses to it blessed Boaz and said “And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.” Over in 1 Chronicles 2:3,4 we are given the list of Judah’s children and Pharez was his 4th son but first by Tamar. It was through Pharez that the line would lead to Jesus being brought into this world.
Judah’s first two son’s Er and Onan died childless. The third son Shelah had descendants but nothing remarkable. The last son was Zerah he had a man born of his lineage named Achan. That would be the same Achan that stole some of the goods from Jericho that were to belong solely to God and thus led to Israel’s first defeat in the very next battle.
All three of these men were born into the family that was promised to produce kings, Genesis 49:8-10. Each one could have been the beneficiary of that blessing, but only one followed. The blessing is there for us but it is up to us on how we proceed. Obedience which blesses, half hearted obedience which produces very little, or out right disobedience which causes problems for everyone around us. It is time for each of us to get busy working for the Lord.
