Careful who you marry

In Genesis chapter 28 Isaac sends his youngest son Jacob back to Haran to get a wife. The family understood that marrying Canaanite women was a bad thing. Esau however hadn’t paid attention to this and had married a couple of Canaanite women. Upon seeing Jacob being sent to Haran for a wife we read these words in verses 8,9 “And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;  Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.”
Ishmael was his uncle, and back then such intermarriage was allowed. Problem was this Ishmael was half Egyptian and according to 21:21 his wife was full Egyptian. That made their offspring 3/4 Egyptian.
My point is this, just because someone comes from a Christian home doesn’t mean that that person is really a Christian. Ishmael was Abraham’s son but that didn’t make him a child of God. We all start out lost and of this world (Psalms 51:5). Everyone of us needs to have our own personal relationship with Jesus. Otherwise we could be trading one problem for another problem that is really just the same problem with a different name.
